Welcome to our Village website!
Farrington Gurney is a small rural village and a great place to live. Situated in the North East of Somerset between Bristol, Bath and Wells.
Farrington Gurney Parish Council is responsible for local issues, including setting an annual precept to cover its operating costs, and producing annual accounts for public scrutiny.
The Parish Council maintains many of the street lights in the parish, manages allotments, playing fields and a well-used playground next to the Memorial Hall, Church Lane (from land leased from the Duchy of Cornwall).
It considers and comments on local planning applications and works with the residents, district council officers and staff, the local neighbourhood police team and other organisations on matters of crime, security and traffic.
The Parish Council also initiates projects for the maintenance and repair of parish facilities and influences the district council on matters of importance for residents in the parish including: the maintenance, repair and improvement of highways, drainage, footpaths, public transport and street cleaning.
Within the village, there is a parish church – St John’s nestling in the rolling countryside along with the popular Memorial Hall, a village school and a thriving business community providing employment for many people.
The Parish Council meets once a month at 7.30pm on the third Monday (excluding August where there is no scheduled Parish Council Meeting).
The Parish Council always welcomes and encourages residents to attend. There is a dedicated public participation session at the start of every meeting offering the opportunity for residents to raise matters of interest with the Parish Council.
Though the rest of the meeting is for Parish Council Business and not open to public participation, residents are welcome to remain for the duration of the meeting except for very occasional instances if the council resolve to exclude press and public due to matters of a: legal, contractual or HR basis and these are dealt with at the end.
